Sampras: My Wimbledon Record's Safe

The former Wimbledon champion and Grand Slam record holder, Pete Sampras, said that he believes that his 7 time Wimbledon record which he shares with Roger Federer, is safe for at least the next 10 years.

He said, that he's not sure if anyone in the next 10 years will be able to win 5 or 6 Wimbledons.

"I don't know if someone in the next 10 years will be able to win 5 or 6 Wimbledons," he said.

The highly talented and former number one continued in the same breath.
"Roger and myself, our game on grass was so ...dominat. I think Murray can win some more and Djokovic, but I don't think that dominant game is out there that's going to win it seven times. But I could be wrong."

Roger Federer, changed to big head racket after his second round exit at the Wimbledon. Since he made the switch, he has been defeated in the semi final of Hamburg tournament and now in the second round of Swiss Open in Gstaad.

Sampras said that he did not know if Roger will stick with the new big head racket he is now using.

"I don't know where his head's at, whether he's going to stick with it."

Pete himself switched over to big head racket after his retirement. He said that the racket helps his back-hand and makes his serves more powerful. He said that he wish he did the switching when he was still playing. He believes that it would have helped his game more especially in the clay.

Probably he was reffering to the fact that he always find it a bit difficult winning in the clay. He won titles in all the Grand Slam except the French Open.

"I wish I would have tried it, at least a little bit on the clay, when I was playing. It would have helped me a little bit."

So it seem like Roger Federer, did the correct thing by switching over to big heads. Only time will tell, if it will be advantageous to his game or not.

Pete Sampras, who was nicknamed, "Pistole Pete" because of his thunderous missle-like serves, won 14 grand slams, a record he achieved by breaking the 13 grand slams record of his tennis idol, Rod Laver of Australia.

Sampras won 14 grand slams and held the record
until, Roger Federer, broke it a couple of years ago. Roger has 17 grand slams and he is still playing, who knows he may still win one or two more before he retires with the new big head racket.
