Martino Is Barcelona's New Coach

Gerardo "Tata" Martino, (50) the coach of the Argentine club, Newell Old Boys has just been appointed the new coach of FC Barcelona. He led his club to the semi-final of just concluded Copa Libertadores. He will be replacing Tito Vilanova, who stepped down last weekend due to illness.

Martino and Barcelona reached an agreement on a three year contract which he will be signing in a couple of days. The agreement was reached through a video conference. He will be coming to Barcelona with his own backroom.
                                      
Before Martino was selected Barcelona spoke to a couple of coaches including the former Barcelona mid-fielder and B-team coach, Luis Enrique who recently committed to coach Celta Vigo for the coming season.

The new coach will not be in time to take charge of Barcelona friendly match against FC Bayern the club of the former coach, Pep Guardiola on Wednesday.

Geraldo Martino, who is an admirer of Barcelona style of play which is similar to his own style of possession and attacking football which he did brilliantly at the Newell Old Boys.

He recently said, "I identify with Barcelona" and has always defended the club against its critics. 

Martino took a club that was in crisis remold them, gave them believe in themselves, and inspire them to win the league title.

Every eyes in the football world will be to see how he will fare in the best club of the world. Success to him in his enormous task.
