Though his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, said that he requested for a transfer in 2010 but after some discussions Rooney ended up signing a new contract with the club.
But the arrival of Robin van Persie from Arsenal last season and his magnificient performance which not only earned him the highest goal scorer of the season but also helped the club immensely in winning the premier league, made Rooney's drop in form very uncomfortable.
The former number one goal manchant of the club now moved by Ferguson to the right flank a position he seem to be unhappy with made matters worse.
At the end of last season Sir Alex said that Rooney wants to leave the club, so the speculation as to which club he will go to began. The new manager David Moyes, made a statement to the media after some discussions with the player, the manager said that wayne is not leaving the club and he is not for sale.
Now the speculation continued after Rooney had to come back to Uk from the club's Asia pre season preparation tour sighting injury.
But the recent statement by Moyes where he said that Rooney will be a good cover for van Persie, created more confusion for Rooney as he was probably hoping to regain his striking position by playing alongside RvP or behind him.
The situation even made Jose Mourinho, to tender an offer on the table for the unhappy Rooney. Though Manchester United rejected the offer, stating once again that the player is not for sale.
Since Mourinho has set his eyes on getting him, I think United will sell him if Mourinho made them an offer they can't refuse. At a point Moyes will realise that what happened between him and Rooney in the past will make it difficult to work together. He will let him leave may be to Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona or some other club. I think that given the way things has been going Rooney will leave before the transfer market closes.
