The FC Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, has stepped down from the job he held for one year. He gave up the job due to illness. In a statement which was published in the club's website, he said, "With the treatments I must follow from now on, I cannot devote 100% to the tasks of head coach."
He continued, "After five wonderful years as part of a team that has made dreams come true for any coach, its time to face a change in my professional life and focus my energy on continuing to fight the disease I was diagnosed with a year and half ago."
Vilanova was diagnised with cancer and had treatment in a New york hospital during the 2012/13 football. His assistant was in charge while he was away, but before the end of the season he came back and took charge again. But now he needs more time to concentrate on getting well. It is a good thing that he has taken the advice of the former Barcelona and dutch legend, Johan Cruiff.
One can imagine that it was not an easy decision for him to give up, the most sort after job in the world of football. "It is not easy to leave this very special group of players, fellow staff and friends with whom I shared many memorable experiences," he said.
Tito Vilanova, was the assistant to Pep Guardiola, and was made the chief coach June, 2012 after Guardiola resigned to take a season and rest from football management. After resting for a season Guardiola is now back as the new coach of the newly crowned champions of the European champions league.
I wish Mr Vilanova success in his treatments and speedy recovery. May God bless him and heal him completely, amen.
