Serena Claims Swedish Open

Serena Williams, (31), the women's world number one tennis player has won the Swedish open in Bastad, by beating the Swedish number one,
Johanna Larson, 6 - 4, 6 - 1.

Williams who did not drop a set in the tournament, started the final in a sluggish manner, and found herself having to fight back, from 3 - 1 down in the first set.

The Swedish hopeful Larson could not utilize her chances, as she struggled with her first serves, which allowed Serena who had much experience, to come back into the set, took control and won the first 6 - 4.

The American then took the confidence, she gained in the second half of the first to the second set.

Infact, Serena over whelmed Johanna in the second set, that the Swede only won one game. So this set ended very quickly 6 - 1.

Williams suffered a shocking defeat, at the Wimbledon earlier this month, during the round of 16, at the hand of the German, Sabine Lisicki. Serena was tipped by many tennis experts and fans, as the favourite, to win the tournament in London.

After winning the Swedish Open, she said, "It was really good to come here and win after a disappointing Wimbledon, so hopefully this confidence, will help me, for the rest of the year."

With this winning, Serena has won 51 matches and 7 titles so far this year, 2013. It is pertinent to note, that five of the tournaments she won, were all in clay. The other two were on hard courts.

Record of the 7 titles in 2013:

(1)  January - Brisbane International (hard court)
(2)  March  -  Sony Open, Miami      (hard court)
(3)  April    -  Family Circle Cup, Charleston (clay)
(4)  May    -   Madrid Open                 (clay)
(5)  May    -   Italian Open,  Rome      (clay)
(6)  June    -   French Open                  (clay)
(7)  July    -    Swedish Open, Bastad   (clay)

Serena Williams, has won a total of 16 grand slams, and is still hungry for
more titles. Judging by the way she is still playing the sport she loves, there is no doubt in my mind, that she will win more titles before she retires.
