Totti Signs New Roma Extention Deal

Francesco Totti, the 37 year old captain of the Serie A side AS Roma and former Italian international, has just signed a new two year contract deal, to extend his playing days at the club.

The new contract plus a year remaining in his old contract, will keep him at the club until he turns 40 years in the next three years. It will then put him in the exclusive group of players who played the beautiful game until they were in their forties, such as Edwin van der Sar, Roger Miller, David James.

Francesco Totti

The deadly striker, showed his appreciation of the contract extention and said after signing it, ''It's what I and the club wanted. I thanked them for giving me another chance, to wear the shirt of the only team I've ever supported and loved.''

''I have another two years of responsibility and I know that we can do great things here,'' Totti said.

''So far this season we've got off on the right foot, we have a manager who wants his team to play and demands respect, which we haven't had recently,'' the highly gifted attacker added.

Francesco Totti, who has played his club career only with AS Roma, won numerous awards, that one needs an enormous space to list them all. So I will just endeavour to mention, but a few of them. He started playing for the club at the age of sixteen years.

Honours:
Serie A champion in 2000

Italian footballer of the year five times

Serie A top scorer of the year (2006/07)
European Golden Shoe (2006/07)

He played for the Azzurri (national team) 58 times scored 9 times, which paled in comparism to his scoring record at AS Roma. There he scored 228 times. He is regarded in the club as a legend. Totti, who is married with two children retired from the national team after winning the 2006 World Cup.
