PLATINI SAYS BLATTER SHOULD STEP ASIDE

The President of the European football governing body (UEFA), Michel Platini has called on the Fifa President Sepp Blatter to step aside and allow a fresh face to pilot the affairs the organisation.

The World football governing body has been labelled by many in the football community as very corrupt.

There have been many allegations of bribery and corruption, and on top of the list was the allegation that the Qatar World Cup Bidding Committee bribed some Fifa members to win hosting the 2022 tournament.

Michel  Platini (Uefa President)

Platini thinks that only a fresh face can bring in ''fresh air'' into Fifa. He believes that a new person will be able to clean what he termed the ''very very very bad'' image of Fifa.

Sepp Blatter, has been Fifa President since 1998, after winning his first term election. He has now served 5 terms and is contesting for the 6th term in May, 2015.

So far he has one challenger, another Fifa official, Jerome Champagne, but Platini speaking to the French Radio Station Europe 1, said that he will not support either of the two and wishes that other people will contest.

''I supported (Blatter) in 1998 because I thought he was the right person,'' he said.

''But after five terms it's time to have some fresh air and make room for someone else. I think the image of Fifa is very, very, very bad and that is why he must stop,'' Platini added.

The former Juventus top player also said that he thinks that another European candidate will find it difficult to win.

''Another European candidate would have very little chance of winning,'' Platini said.

Michel Platini had already said in August that he will not be contesting the election in May.

The former English Football Association (EFA), chairman David Bernstein said that Uefa should boycott the next World Cup unless Fifa carry out a meaningful reform. He said that it was time to take a drastic action against the world football governing body. But he recognised that fact that England cannot do it alone, that was why he suggested doing it through Uefa. ''England on its own cannot influence this. If we tried something like that, we'd be laughed at,'' Bernstein told the BBC. He said that Germany, Italy, France and Holland are "all powerful" football nations and you cannot have a serious World Cup without them, that is if Uefa boycott the next World Cup. He advised that Uefa should use their clout to force Fifa to carry out the over due reform.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TOP TEN SCORERS IN HISTORY

The Champions League was established in 1955 by the European football governing body, UEFA, as the European Champion Clubs' Cup for top European Leagues Champions to compete for, in order to produce a champion of the continent.

Prior to 1992 when Uefa changed the name of the competition to its current name of Champions League, it was commonly called the European Cup or European Champions Cup.

Lionel Messi of Barcelona

Before 1990 the competition was played on a knockout basis among the Champions of each country's top league.

It was at this juncture that Uefa introduced the round robin system by increasing the number of participating clubs.

More clubs that finished among the few on top of every league qualified to participate in the competition.

But the number of clubs from each country is dependent on the size and quality of their league.

For some years the Real Madrid legend Raul had the record of being the highest goal scorer at 71 goals followed by Ronaldo at 70 goals and at the 3rd position was Messi with 69 goals.

But on Wednesday, Lionel Messi scored two goals against Ajax to share the top position with Raul. Cristiano Ronaldo had fail to score in Real Madrid's game against Liverpool at the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday to increase his tally.

Without much ado, here are the names of the top champions league scorers under its current name.
